MTS Institute / Financial freedom number calculator
Financial freedom calculator
Find the corpus you need from your yearly expenses and how many years it will take with your savings and return.
How it works
Your freedom number is the corpus whose yearly withdrawal covers your expenses. Formula: freedom number = yearly expenses ÷ withdrawal rate. The calculator then grows your current savings and monthly saving at your expected return until they reach the number.
This idea is the heart of Book 2 of the M.I.N.T. Framework, Financial Freedom: Your Complete Blueprint. The calculator does not adjust for inflation; use the inflation calculator for that.
Questions
What is a safe withdrawal rate?
A withdrawal rate is the share of your corpus you spend each year. Many planners use 3 to 4 percent so the money can last for decades.
Does this include inflation?
No. Use today's expenses and a return after inflation for a simple real estimate, or use the inflation calculator separately.
