MTS Institute / Pivot points calculator
Pivot points calculator
Enter the previous high, low and close to get the pivot, three resistance levels and three support levels.
How it works
Classic pivot: P = (high + low + close) ÷ 3. R1 = 2P minus low, S1 = 2P minus high, R2 = P plus (high minus low), S2 = P minus (high minus low), R3 = high plus 2 × (P minus low), S3 = low minus 2 × (high minus P).
In a mechanical system a level is only useful if a written rule says exactly what to do when price reaches it.
Questions
Which high, low and close should I use?
For intraday levels use the previous day. For swing trading use the previous week or month.
Do pivot points work?
They are widely watched, which can make them matter. Test any pivot rule on past data before trading it.
